Audible AI: Maven

AI is everywhere these, from search engines to stock-picking software, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it’s found a home in the audiobook world. For instance, Audible has an AI-powered search function called Maven.

From what I can see, Maven’s only on the Audible app. It’s also still in beta – and for good reason: when I tried to use it to find my books, it only pulled up about four of them. Even when I got downright specific (e.g., “Mutation by Kevin Hardman”), it still couldn’t find the book.  That’s a little disheartening.

In short, at the moment, I don’t see how it’s any better than Audible’s traditional search option. (In fact, if it can’t find a book when given the name and author, it’s arguably worse.) But maybe I need to temper my expectations, since Maven is actually more of a recommendation engine. However, that’s also a downer because it seems to be saying, “Your book’s garbage, so even when a listener is looking for it by title and author name, we still won’t recommend it.”  Oh well…

Beyond that, I’ve also posted Chapter 20 of Glimmeblade, and my joy over that will easily eclipse any disappointment regarding Maven.
